For college students without a lot of work experience, finding an answer can be tricky. However, there are some universal skills that employers look for in new grads.

The Top Five Skills

According to NACE’s Job Outlook 2012survey, the top five skills/qualities employers seek are:

Ability to work in a team
Verbal communication skills
Ability to make decisions and problem solve
Ability to obtain and process information
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work
Employers will gauge these “soft skills” during an interview by asking behavioral-based questions, like “tell me about a time when things didn’t go as planned” or “tell me about your most recent experience working on a team.” Not sure how to answer these questions?
